A Journey Through My Closet, Part 1

Sorry I've had bloggers block lately and I have been SUPER SUPER SUPER busy with projects and papers!!

Since I'm going through and showing you our apartment I thought I would go through and show you some of my favorite pieces of clothing that are in my closet...

First, I want to introduce you to my perfect pair of shoes.

Before I show you them, Let me begin with the story of how these amazing shoes became mine.

It was the summer between my Sophomore year and Senior year in high school (I skipped junior year in case you were confused)

My youth group and I went to Leadville, Colorado, like we did every year, for a mission trip.

It's a beautiful place!! We always stayed at the same motel called The Mountain Peaks Motel, (classy right?)

Right next door there was thrift store as most of you know I am a HUGE fan of thrift stores so I went in with a few of my friends walked around for a bit just looking and then I was stopped in my tracks......

There sitting on the shoe rack were these amazing black velvet shoes that looked brand new, no marks on the bottoms, nothing they were perfect and then I saw it size 7, perfect it was like a sign from God and then the price tag read.....$3!!!! I was in shock!!! These babies were going home with me!!! and since that day almost 4 years ago these shoes, these amazing shoes have been sitting in my closet loved and adored by me!

They have severed me well over the years....
I wore them to Freshmen banquet

I wore them in our family pictures

I wore them the day JRP Proposed..

I wore them in our engagement pictures

I will wear them tomorrow night

And I will wear them until they fall apart!

To some they may just be a simple pair of black heels, but to me they are the perfect pair of shoes!!

On stage

My Strait jacket had its premiere on stage a few weeks ago, but JRP and I went Friday night to see it!!

This show was probably my favorite show to watch because I got see peoples reactions to the twists and turns that I knew was coming!!

And at the end when people gasped to the costume change I had designed it was pure joy!!! And I thought this is why I love being a costume designer!

Apartment Tour Part 3: The Kitchen

I have a love/hate relationship with our kitchen.

Some days I love the coziness and how easy it is to clean.
Some days I hate the lack of counter space and a dishwasher.

Today I love it, but I'm pretty sure that just has to do with the fact that my amazing husband washed the dishes and I didn't have to!

SOLD (hopefully soon)

Ok even though there really wasn't a definitive answer from the poll, I'm officially selling my dress!

I love it, but I want to make some other bride to feel as great as I did on my wedding day!!

Click here to see it on the runway.

Its a fall 2010 Piccione dress.

Yes, it has a strap that I didn't wear because when I first tried it on I didn't see it and didn't like it as much with it, but it is still attached!

Let me know if you know anyone who needs a wedding dress.

To Sell or not To Sell

That is the question.

I've been thinking a lot lately about selling my wedding dress.

Of course I love my dress, but what in the world am I going to do with it?

Right now it's sitting in our closet taking up TONS of space.

Most people keep it because their "daughter might want to wear it some day," But really I highly doubt that my daughter (if we even have a daughter) will want to wear a dress that's 25-30+ years out of fashion. And if they do my mother has a beautiful dress sitting in her closet that they can wear.

Am I right or am I crazy?

I guess I could make something out of it, but I don't think I could bring myself to CUT MY DRESS!! Nope not happening.

And why would I keep someone else from having such an amazing dress?

So I'm putting up a poll! Please VOTE and help me out!! And if you think I should keep it PLEASE COMMENT and tell me why!

Apartment Tour Part 2: The Dining Room and Entry way

Aka the other half of the living room.....

It's not very exciting on this part of the room, but it does house my favorite piece of furniture, which is our table. I love it. We actually got it for free when they cleaned out the phase 1 apartment. It was pretty ugly before and scratched up. So we sanded it down to bear wood and re-stained it and it came out this beautiful walnut color. Then my dad sprayed the chairs black because the table took us 3 full days to do we didn't want to tackle the chairs. Maybe one day we will buy new chairs, but I don't ever want to get rid of this table.

Here's a close up of the table with our halloween decorations on it!

Here is our "Entry way"

This is the coat rack JRP bought me for my birthday! It's great and so handy when its cold outside. I wish we had a bench or something that would fit there to put our bags on, but oh well.

Keep checking back. We still have 3 more rooms (4 if you count the hallway) to go through!

It's the most wonderful time of the year!!!

Halloween is my Christmas.....

....Yes, I went there....

....and don't call me a satan worshiper or anything because 1, I'll hit you (Like how I automatically resort to violence? Its probably because I love Halloween! At least I bet that's what you are thinking!!) and 2, I'll remind you that Halloween started out as All Hallows eve which was in fact a Roman Catholic Holiday and Christmas started as a pagan holiday so there

and no I don't hate Christmas, In fact, I plan on buying a tree with JRP this year decking it out up in this ghettoness, but thats beside the point Halloween still is my Christmas. Ok I'm off my soap box....

Anyway JRP and I started a new family tradition this year and went to the pumpkin patch and carved us some awesomeness, but seeing how this was the first time either one of us remember carving a pumpkin they didn't turn out quite as planned.

By the way his pumpkin is a ninja turtle and mine is none other than Marie Antoinette and yes, I realize his is much more awesome than mine, but only because I traced him an actual pumpkin stencil and I used a silhouette oh well you live and you learn and I can tell exactly what mine is and I LOVE it!!!

After

Here it is!!! :) This is probably the coolest thing I have ever made for real!!
Thank you husband for modeling it!

I decided not to do a tutorial because this video is way cooler than anything I could ever make.....

I used nylon straps instead of belts like this video because it makes it more real looking. It is a bit more expensive, but only by a few dollars. I spent about $25 to make mine.

Happy Halloween Month!! Keep checking back for more Halloween fun!!!

The before

What does this picture look like? 4 off-white men's shirts right?

Well in a few days these 4 shirts will turn into this.....

That's right this week I get the great task of making a Strait Jacket and hopefully have my first tutorial just in time for Halloween. So stay tuned and keep checking back if you want to see how this thing starts to take shape.

By the way, I am making this for a play I am costuming right now, not for JRP so don't worry!!

Cliche

Even though I think it's cliche.

I'm following the mass of brides and chopping my hair off!!

It's been driving me crazy! It is out of control!

No longer is it wavy and beautiful.

It's limp and lifeless and lame. I hate it!!!

So snip snip....

Here our a few options please vote on the poll

(yes, Katy I did vote on your poll that it was cliche, but now I understand and I'm sorry, I take it back!)

Nappy Birfweek!

I think I lied in my last post...

Halloween is in fact not my favorite Holiday that would have to be, hands down, my birthday! Even though its on a horrible day (9/11) , but we (aka I) have turned it into more of birthweek anyway!

My mom has always made a huge deal out of my birthday!! Being a cake decorators daughter I always got and still get the best birthday cakes ever and she normally throws a big party with great food and great people and it's awesome! This year was no different expect I now have an amazing husband that makes a huge deal out of it too!

To start out my birthweek My in-laws came in to town on Saturday and took JRP, I and My parents out to an amazing dinner!! Then, JRP took me out to dinner on Tuesday night to my favorite restaurant, The Olive Garden!

Then Friday night he cleaned our whole apartment (dishes, laundry, everything!) and cooked me a wonderful dinner! He even made a menu and got me roses, it was so sweet! And then at midnight he gave me all my presents! He got me a red reusable water bottle, a coat rack, and a big bag of york peppermint patties!!!

Then on Saturday morning he woke me up with breakfast in bed! Waffles and bacon! and a sweet sweet birthday card! Then we went down to the Chesapeake Boathouse and went Kayaking!!

Then we had a big party out at my parents house and my mom made me an amazing Marie Antoinette cake!! It was Perfect!!
You can see more pictures of my amazing Marie Cake(Notice I say Marie not Barbie because I'm not 8!! I did not have a Barbie cake!) on my Mom's Blog

It was truly a wonderful, amazing week!!

Halloween

Halloween is the most wonderful time of the year for me! I LOVE halloween, but I'm a costume designer why wouldn't I right? But its more than that. Halloween is a HUGE deal in my family, it even trumps Christmas. Crazy to most of you, but awesome to me!!! Halloween holds so many happy memories for me and free candy what's better than that? (BTW you are never to old to trick or treat, JRP and I will be doing it this year of course!)

I'm so excited!! Its right around the corner!! I can almost smell the candy corn!!!

I'm itching to bust out the 11 boxes of halloween decorations and go crazy!!! (Thank you sister for loaning me your 10 boxes while you are in Japan, My measly 1 box was just not going to cut it this year!)

I'm sad we won't have a famous Staci and Daniel party!!! It's going to be a tough time of year without them here! Especially since JRP is a halloween hater!!!

Heathrow

P.S. As soon as October 1st rolls around you better believe I'll put pictures up of our decorations! This is what I pray it looks like.....

(Only in my dreams, JRP would never allow this)

I was also planning on finishing decorating our apartment this week, but I'm sick and lazy right now so hopefully soon!!

Did that really happen?

Being married is surreal....

Don't get me wrong it's awesome and I love every second of it, but it still doesn't feel real.

I look back at our pictures and think "did that really happen?" "Did I really get MARRIED?" "That's crazy!"

All the months of planning and hard work. It's just odd that the wedding is over. Odd and awesome! I loved planning a wedding, thats true what girl doesn't and I had my perfect wedding! Truly, it was perfect and everything I could have imagined!

But being married is a million times better!!! I get to fall asleep next to my best friend, I get to wake up next to him (which still sometimes scares me!) and I get to spend most of the day with him! It's wonderful, amazing, and fun!

I can't wait to see what life has in store for us!

Who needs Hideaway?

Not us that's who!

One of JRP's favorite restaurants in Edmond is Hideaway Pizza, but now that we are married and poor, Hideaway is a luxury that we just can't have.

So I decided to make his favorite pizza, Paradise Pie.

So We snooped on Hideaway's website and got the ingredients!

And TA DA, Paradise Pie!

It was so good! JRP said it tasted just like their's!!

Yum! Another cooking win!

Design Dreams

Like every new wife, I'm trying to get our apartment decorated and perfect.

This is a hard task to do in our ghetto apartment.

I have been researching all day for ideas for our bedroom

all I keep finding is things that I want in our house when and if we ever have a house.

like this awesomenesss....

Check it out here

That's so awesome it reminds me of Beauty and the Beast. I could curl up at the top of that thing and read for hours. Perfect!

Also this.....

I want to have some kind of outside furniture on our little porch, but i doubt this will happen.

Now I'll get out of my dream world and back the reality of decorating my tiny baby apartment.
